It Dawned On Me

September 30, 2017

This time. Held in suspense by

Branches once delicate, gnarled

Fingers stretch out over years to

Hold back weathered sky.

Paused. Shifted from shadow by

Drops in flight; animated

Fragments that fill my lungs

As I too still.

Movement is elsewhere, and

In its passing has left

An aged land. This ripe place

A silence complete. Shrill chorus

Stutters as tiny wings flutter

The edges. Even as my own feet

fall clumsy.
